Rustem Pasha Mosque Istanbul is an impressive historical and architectural monument of the Ottoman Empire. Located in the famous Eminönü district of the city, it was built between 1560 and 1563 during the reign of Sultan Suleiman I.
It is one of Istanbul's most iconic works of art and architecture. The mosque is named after its chief architect, Mimar Sinan’s apprentice Rustem Pasha, who also served as Grand Vizier to Suleiman I.
The building is covered with small domes and topped with a large dome, making it a unique feature among all other mosques in Istanbul. The interior features thousands of beautiful Iznik tiles which are believed to be some of the finest specimens ever produced by the great tile-makers of Istanbul. Its minaret stands at 43 meters tall, earning it the nickname "Towering Minaret" among locals and visitors alike.
The exterior walls are made out of grey limestone blocks while the interior walls contain white marble panels decorated with floral motifs and Quranic verses. Rustem Pasha Mosque has a rich history that dates back centuries ago, making it an important part of Istanbul's cultural heritage. Every year, thousands of tourists come to visit this mosque as it showcases one of Turkey's most unique architectural wonders.
